On our recent trip home to New England, Claire and I had the opportunity to check out our wedding venue at The Robin Wood Farm in Dublin, New Hampshire. With wine in hand, we walked around the private estate taking in the beautiful view of the Monadnock Mountian Region and the gorgeous gardens around the farm. We had a blast deciding on some of the logistics for our day, like choosing the best location for the ceremony and scoping out the dance floor and all the great scenes for photos. It was an excellent way for us to envision all the possibilities and made both of us very excited.
When Claire and I began creating our Save the Date cards, we had to pick between having them printed somewhere and printing them ourselves. We found some creative layouts online, for example, The Paper Craft Pantry, and Minted, but we couldn't turn down the opportunity for an art project, so we made them ourselves. We wanted them to have a combination of our styles as artist. Claire has a background in printmaking, so she hand-carved a stamp to block print the lettering, and I used one of the images I took during our engagement shoot. For the card itself, we decided on a single-sided flat card with a smooth matte surface, the layout we created has one image on top and the lettering on the bottom. Having a simple design worked really well for us, it draws your eye towards the handmade quality of Claire's lettering. We are still figuring out the bulk of the information our guests will need, so we just included essentials, the date, the town we're getting married in, and our names. Unless you are ready for a time-consuming art project, I might not recommend making them yourselves. There are so many options online to pick through that will allow you to create a card that feels like your own. Overall I feel like our cards really show our personalities, and we had a blast working together in our studio. When wedding planning it's important to choose the traditions you wish to follow, for Claire and I sending cards through snail mail was a tradition we were both happy to continue.
